Turkey has sparked a row with Russia following the shooting down of a Russian fighter jet.
Vladmir Putin has accused Turkey of backing ISIL and called them “accomplices of terror”. Russia is fighting ISIL in Syria although critics have accused Russia of being more interested in backing Bashir Al-Assad.
Turkish President Recap Erdogan has hit back at Putin’s claims that Turkey is buying oil from ISIL.
“Shame on you. Those who claim we buy oil from ISIL are obliged to prove it. If not, you are a slanderer,” Erdogan said, in a thinly veiled reference to Putin.
Turkey has remained unapologetic over its actions, citing their imperative to defend their territorial integrity.
