Amids protest from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the Senate on Thursday confirmed former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi as minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Senators of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had told the Senate President, Bukola Saraki that the exercise can only be carried out if the report of Samuel Anyanwu – led Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions on Rotimi Amaechi, is considered.
The opposition senators insisted that anything short of their demand would not be acceptable today.
The Senate, however proceeded with the confirmation of the Amaechi, which led to the aggrieved senators staging a symbolic walk-out of the red chamber.
