Following the announcement of the new Olu of Warri, the Itsekiri nation has begun the 90-day period of mourning for the late 19th Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse II who died in a Lagos hospital. He is to be suceeded by his brother, Prince Ikenwole Godffrey Abioye, who is his younger brother.
The Presidency, through a statement issued yesterday, Monday 21st September 2015, by the Special Adviser to the president, Mr Femi Adesina, conveyed his greetings and condolences to the Olu’s family, friends, relations as well as associates of the monarch.
It is also worthy to note that the President urged members of the late Olu’s family and the entire Itsekiri kingdom that the late monarch will be remembered as a lover of peace who always strived to foster the co-existence with other people. He would also be remembered for his commendable wisdom and benevolence shown during his 28-year reign.
