4,400 Migrants have been rescued off the Libyan coast in a rescue operation which lasted for up to 24 hours.
The Italian coast Guard rescued Migrants from 22 rubber dinghies as they attempted to make the crossing into Italy.
Every year, thousands of Migrants risk their lives in search of greener pastures with large numbers of people crossing the Mediterranean in rubber boats.
This year, an estimated 2,000 people have drowned attempting to make the journey.
