10 Things You Didn’t Know About Tecno Own The Stage

Auditions for TECNO OWN THE STAGE took place in Lagos, Nigeria on October 17th, 2015 which was in conjunction with AFRICA MAGIC and TECNO, Nigeria’s leading mobile phone. The whole idea was to bring everyone together from different countries in Africa to battle for the wining prize at the end of the show in February 2016.ย

The auditions saw different talents setting the stage on fire in Lagos and every acts competed against each other in order to gain the judges support and be selected among the final 15. The cut down from thousands of people at the audition on October 17th, 2015 finally went down to five people from Nigeria to join other contestants from Kenya and Tanzania.

Since the show began, it has been the buzz on social mediaย amongย ย many youths in Africa. The biggest fight online was between Nigerians and Kenyans [READ IT HERE INCASE YOU MISSED IT].

Below are TEN things you didn’t know about the show;

  1. MTV MAMA Best female act (2015), YEMI ALADE, is a judge on the show. Yemi started her career in 2009 from a platform like this and we have seen her grow in the industry. Having ย Yemi on the show was a good decision because she has influenced other up and coming artistes on the show and also encouraged them. Tecno Own The Stage is the show and she
  2. Tecno, the leading mobile phone brand in association with Africa Magic present the Tecno Own The Stage karaoke competition.
  3. Tecno Own The Stage sees talented karaoke singers from across the continent battling it out for a prize pool of $50,000 and an opportunity to record a song and go on tour with a renowned musical act.
  4. The second runner up takes home $10,000 and a Tecno Phantom 5 smartphone, whilst the first runner up wins $15,000, a Tecno smartphone and three months internship with a renowned record label.
  5. The winner takes home a grand prize of $25,000, a Phantom 5 smartphone and the chance to record a song with one of the judges. The winner will also get the chance to record a music video and tour with a popular music act. We don’t know who the popular music act will be.

  7. Only one Nigerian made it to the finale.
  8. Bien-Aime Baraza (Sauti Sol) is known for hisย ย soulful and his songwriting skills.ย Bien-Aime has remained active in the group and part of the creation of Sauti Sol two albums: Mwanzo (2008) and Sol Filosofia (2011).
  9. The show – TECNO OWN THE STAGE – is hosted by Vimbai Mutinhiriย  and Uti Nwachuwkwu.
  10. The grand finale of TECNO OWN THE STAGE will hold on February 7th, 2016
