The 8th National Assembly has followed the pattern of the previous assemblies in refusing to make their remuneration public knowledge.
Public outrage has greeted this decision with most citizens protesting the large sums members of the Assembly earn.
The Chairman of the Revenue Mobilization and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Mr. Elias Mbam has revealed that a new pay structure is being prepared for the National assembly.
The new pay structure will be ready by September and will take away the debate of pay cut from the members of the National assembly.
With crude oil prices recording record drops, the ability of many government agencies to pay workers has become severely hampered.
Mr. Elias said, “Presently, we are currently reviewing the subsisting renumeration packages and it is going to reflect the socio-economic realities of today.
“We expect that before the end of next month, it will be ready.
“But it will go through a process, it is not something that you will just say ‘yes or no.’
