The Zuma Film Festival 25th Edition is set to be one of Nigeria’s most anticipated cultural events this year. Organized by the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Creative Economy, and Tourism, the festival will take place from December 1 to 5, 2025, in Abuja.

At the official unveiling, Festival Director Halima Oyedele said the festival would spotlight Nigeria’s creativity and storytelling potential. “Our stories shape how the world sees us. The Zuma Film Festival is not just about screening films; it’s about celebrating the essence of who we are,” she explained.

Celebrating Nigeria’s Culture through Film

This year’s theme, “Storytelling for Global Influence: Film as a Soft Power and Economic Force,” captures the goal of using film as a bridge between cultures and as a tool for national growth. NFC Managing Director Ali Nuhu noted that Nigerian filmmakers are redefining global cinema by blending originality with cultural pride. He emphasized that storytelling can be a major driver of the country’s economy and creative reputation worldwide.

Minister of Art, Culture, Creative Economy, and Tourism Hannatu Musawa also reaffirmed the government’s dedication to strengthening the film sector. She praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its continued support of creative initiatives, calling the film industry “a pillar of youth employment and national identity.”

The 25th edition is already attracting international attention, with over 3,100 film submissions received from countries such as Nigeria, India, France, China, South Africa, and Egypt. The entries include feature films, documentaries, short films, and animations. The festival lineup will feature screenings, masterclasses, panel sessions, and the prestigious Zuma Film Awards. Delegates from China have also expressed readiness to boost creative collaboration with Nigerian filmmakers, signaling a stronger global partnership in cinema.
