Zuckerberg Denies Influencing US Election through Facebook

Facebook Founder, Mark Zuckerberg, has denied reports that he influenced the victory of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, describing it as โ€˜pretty crazy ideaโ€™.

He made this remark on Thursday during the Techonomy conference in Half Moon Bay, Calif. He said people underestimated support for president-elect Donald Trump.

Zuckerberg said โ€œPersonally, Iย think the idea that fake news on Facebook, of which itโ€™s a very small amount of the content, influenced the election in any way is a pretty crazy idea,โ€ย  โ€œA lot of questions are emerging about Facebookโ€™s role in this yearโ€™s election cycle, especially given the proliferation of sensationalistic and even outright fake news stories.

โ€œIf you believe that, then I donโ€™t think you have internalized the message the Trump supporters are trying to send in this election. Part of what I think is going on here is people are trying to understand the results of the election.

โ€œI think there is a certain profound lack of empathy in asserting that the only reason why someone could have voted the way they did is because they saw some fake news.ย I think the idea that fake news on Facebook โ€“ of which itโ€™s a very small amount of the content-influenced the election in any way is a pretty crazy ideaโ€.
