Manchester City midfielder, Yaya Toure has hit out at the GLO CAF awards following Aubameyang being named African Player Of the Year.
Yaya Toure lost out on the award by seven points to Gabonese Pierre Aubameyang.
In an interview with Afrique Foot, Yaya Toure called the award “sad” “indecent” and ‘lamentable”.
“I am very disappointed many (sic), launches one who had won the last four editions. It’s sad to see Africa react in this way, it does not give importance to things African!” Yaya Toure said.
He compared CAF to FIFA, claiming that even the corrupt international football governing body would not have named Aubameyang.
“I think this is what makes the shame of Africa. For behave in this way, it is indecent! But what can we do? We Africans, we do not show that Africa is important to us. We focus more outside our own continent. This is what is pathetic! ”
Ironically, Yaya Toure still took time out to congratulate Pierre Aubameyang on receiving the award.
