Wireless Festival Canceled After Kanye West Denied Entry Over Antisemitism

The controversial Kanye West-headlining Wireless Festival in the U.K. has been cancelled after the artist was denied entry into the country due to his past antisemitic remarks. Festival organisers confirmed that all ticket holders will receive refunds.

“The Home Office has withdrawn YE’s ETA, denying him entry into the United Kingdom,” the statement read. “As a result, Wireless Festival is cancelled, and refunds will be issued to all ticket holders. Antisemitism in all its forms is abhorrent, and we recognise the real and personal impact these issues have had. As YE said today, he acknowledges that words alone are not enough, and despite this still hopes to be allowed to begin a conversation with the Jewish community in the UK.”

The festival had been under scrutiny since West’s announcement as headliner, with Prime Minister Keir Starmer voicing disapproval within days. Criticism intensified after his two sold-out Los Angeles concerts last week, raising questions about whether he should be allowed to perform in the U.K.

West had issued a full-page apology in the Wall Street Journal in January, but did not make another statement until Tuesday U.K. time, when he offered to speak with Jewish leaders.

Melvin Benn, managing director of Festival Republic, the U.K. promoter behind Wireless, defended West, citing his own experiences with mental health challenges. “I have witnessed many episodes of despicable behaviour that I have had to forgive and move on from,” Benn said. “If I wasn’t before, I have become a person of forgiveness and hope in all aspects of my life, including work.”

The cancellation marks a significant setback for the festival and underscores ongoing concerns over antisemitism in the entertainment industry.
