YOU NEED TO SEE โWHATโS COOKINGโ, A CULINARY & PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION BY RELE GALLERY & SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS WEST AFRICA
.
If itโs true that art is food for the soul, then youโll definitely get your fill if, or when, you go see โWhats Cookingโ a culinary art and photography exhibition held by a collaboration of leading contemporary art space, Rele Gallery and Samsung Electronics West Africa.
The exhibition, which opened last weekend, is an unprecedented documentation of Nigerian food, proving this colourful character in our culture can be much more than what we eat; that there is a great potential for art in how itโs cooked and presented. The exhibition also hopes to inspire experimentation and exploration of the possibilities.
Bringing these possibilities to life were photographers: Kelechi Amadi-Obi and Ade Asiko Okelarin, and chefs: Tiyan Alile, Dunni Obata and Ozoz Sokoh (more popularly known as Kitchen Butterfly), and the power of technology via Samsungโs Galaxy S7 edge and Galaxy S7 smartphones.
Culinary art was the destination. Technology was the vehicle.
The chefs and photographers worked hand in hand to create pieces from food that spoke to memory and history, and also depicted the characters of Lagos and more. All the works were photographed with the Samsung mobile devices aforementioned.
Kelechi Amadi-Obi, praising the power of the device at the opening, stated, โI did not have to edit a single image.โ
The opening had in attendance some of Lagosโs art cognoscenti, collectors, business leaders, enthusiasts and members of the cityโs culture circuit.
The exhibition remains open until Friday, June 10, 2016.
