Anu Ajose, an Instagram user, recently made headlines when he uploaded a video in which he addressed well-known social media personality and activist Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), over his remarks against GTBank and his mother’s pay.

Ajose, who was clearly taken aback, asked why a person with VDM’s status would have a mother who was still employed.

Deeone, a former housemate on Big Brother Naija, posted a video in which she stated:

“I was scrolling and I saw VDM dragging a bank over his mother’s salary. I had to pause. Wait, VDM’s mum still collects salary? Is she a government worker or what?”

She continued by saying that there is no other acceptable explanation for this and that the only plausible one is that VDM’s mother is a government employee who is awaiting retirement or a pension.

VDM responded to the criticism by saying that while some people made fun of his mother specifically, he was more offended by the disdain for her line of work.

He claimed that despite its influence, society has not given his mother’s work enough credit.

He also emphasised that important professions like teaching, medicine, and academia should be paid more and urged the government to examine their salaries.

VeryDarkman explained that while he consistently provides for his mother, her prolonged service is not a result of financial difficulties:

His mother is passionate about children, he said, not because he can’t start a business for her.

He gave his mother credit for inspiring him to work to make public schools better, saying:

He consistently contributes to one of his mother’s accounts, so she is never hungry.
