President Donald Trump has asked the US Supreme Court to delay enforcing a law that would force TikTok’s Chinese owner, ByteDance, to sell the app or face a ban by January 19, 2025.
In a brief, Trumpโs legal team cited the complexity of the case and requested more time to seek a political resolution.
Trump, who opposed TikTok during his first term over national security concerns, has softened his stance, recently expressing support for the app as competition to platforms like Facebook and Instagram.
He met TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew earlier this month and suggested reconsidering the ban.
Free speech groups, including the ACLU, also oppose the law, arguing it threatens free expression.
TikTok has appealed the law, claiming it violates First Amendment rights, with the Supreme Court set to hear the case on January 10.
