Army Denies Involvement in Viral Video as Soludo Wins Second Term

A viral video from the Anambra governorship election sparked serious controversy, but the Nigerian Army has firmly denied any wrongdoing. According to Lt. Col. Olabisi Ayeni, acting deputy director of Army Public Relations for the 82 Division, the footage circulating online is misleading.

Ayeni explained that the soldiers seen in the clip were responding to a distress call from NYSC corps members and INEC officials, who reportedly claimed they were being held by political thugs.  He said a rapid-response team of two officers and twelve soldiers arrived at the scene, exercised restraint, and escorted the rescued officials to the INEC offices safely.

The Army emphasized that its intervention was strictly humanitarian, calling any interpretation that they were interfering in elections “baseless, misleading, and regrettable.”  This comes as Governor Charles Soludo clinched his second term, with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) confirming his win across all 21 local government areas.  Meanwhile, ADC’s John Chuma Nwosu, another gubernatorial candidate, rejected the outcome, accusing the election of being marred by massive vote-buying.

In another related development, a different viral video showed police firing gunshots shortly after Soludo’s victory was declared allegedly in celebration.

In one of the most shocking developments, Laila Charani, one of Senator Ned Nwoko’s wives, leveled explosive allegations against her co-wife Regina Daniels. Charani accused Regina of introducing her to drug use six years ago a move she claims almost destroyed her marriage.

In her Instagram post, Laila rejected Regina’s previous claim that she had given her money, insisting that she never relied on her co-wife for financial support.  She also made serious assertions that Regina allegedly supplied drugs to domestic staff and even her younger sister, Destiny.

Most controversially, Laila accused Regina of sleeping with women in the household, calling her “a bad influence” in their shared family.  Regina responded with scorn, calling Laila’s claims “useless and hurtful,” and defended her reputation as a caring mother.

These three stories grabbed headlines last week and they represent the range of subjects OlorisuperGal covers. Stories in politics, entertainment, or personal drama,  are the moments that got people talking.
