An Indian company has launched the world’s cheapest smartphone. ‘Ringing Bells’ is the ambitious company introducing the ‘Freedom 251’ which is hitting the market at the unbelievable cost of $4.
The Freedom 251 was initially expected to be available at $7 but it appears that the Government’s support of Ringing Bells, founded just last year has enabled the cost to go down even further than first predicted.
The specifications for the Freedom 251 are surprisingly top notch and it even runs on Android Lollipop. It sports aย 4-inch display, 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, and comes with a 3.2-megapixel rear camera and a 0.3-megapixel front camera. The phone also comes with 8GB of internal storage, which can be expanded by another 32GB using a microSD card.
Ringing Bells is hoping to tap into India’s vast market with only a third of Indians owning smartphones. It remains to be seen if this strategy will push out the big players in India.
