“Silence Is Golden” — Teju Babyface’s Advice on Cheating Stirs Massive Backlash

Teju Babyface, the Nigerian comedian and TV host whose real name is Gbadewonuola Olateju Oyelakin, is causing debate after offering unconventional advice on cheating. In a recent video, he urged married men not to confess to infidelity to their wives, saying such confessions are more harmful than healing.

He described confessing to a spouse as “one of the most catastrophic and damaging things you can ever do in your life.” Teju insisted that when people cheat, the guilt they feel should be turned inward, not shared with a partner. According to him, confession should be directed to God, a counsellor, priest, or close friend not to one’s spouse.

Teju also shared a personal story. He said that before marriage, he once cheated, then confessed, but now regrets that decision. He believes the act of confession in that case was motivated more by a desire to sabotage the relationship than to be honest.

Online Reactions: Firestorm of Support, Anger, and Debate

His message has triggered strong responses across social media. Some agree, claiming silence can protect a relationship’s peace and that confession may reopen wounds that never heal. Others strongly disagree, saying honesty is fundamental, and that confession is necessary for accountability.

A sample of reactions: one user said, “If you cheat once and suddenly it’s a ‘mistake’? Double standard much?” Another wrote, “Lowkey, he’s not lying. One mistake shouldn’t define a man,” while others criticized Teju for “promoting infidelity and secrecy.”

What Teju Believes True Repentance Requires

According to Teju Babyface, changing behaviour is more important than confession. He asserts that a single instance of cheating does not automatically make someone a cheater, but repeated disloyalty does. He insists that true repentance is shown by actions, not words.

He also argues that those who confess often do so to unburden their conscience rather than to repair the relationship. That guilt relief, he says, ends up being more about self rather than healing for the partner.
