Elon Musk’s satellite internet service, Starlink, has announced a price increase for its monthly subscriptions in Nigeria.
The new pricing will take effect immediately for new customers, while existing users will see the changes starting January 27, 2025.
In a Friday email to subscribers, Starlink explained that the adjustments are necessary to improve its network infrastructure and ensure the delivery of high-quality internet service across the country.
Under the new pricing structure:Standard (Residential): ₦75,000Mobile – Regional (Roam Unlimited): ₦167,000Mobile – Global (Global Roam): ₦717,000
“These changes reflect our commitment to investing in the infrastructure needed to support and improve your experience with Starlink,” the company stated.
Subscribers who no longer wish to continue with the service have been informed that they can cancel their subscription at any time.
This marks the second major price adjustment by Starlink in Nigeria.
In September, the company attempted to raise its subscription fee by 97%, from ₦38,000 to ₦75,000, citing inflation as the cause.

However, the move faced regulatory backlash from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), which initially threatened sanctions but later withdrew its stance, leaving regulatory approval unclear.
In response to the controversy, Starlink temporarily suspended the hike and issued credits to affected customers.
Since its launch in Nigeria in December 2022—the first African country to receive Starlink’s satellite internet—the service has been praised for extending internet access to remote areas.
However, its high pricing has drawn criticism, with many arguing that the cost is prohibitive for the average Nigerian.
The latest increase comes amid ongoing economic challenges in Nigeria, raising further concerns about the affordability and accessibility of Starlink’s service for a majority of the population.
