Vice President Kashim Shettima has appealed to northern leaders to guard against those attempting to create division within Nigeria. Speaking in Abuja during a meeting with the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) delegation led by its Chairman, Alhaji Bashir Dalhatu, Shettima emphasized the importance of unity, peace, and collective progress among Nigerians.

According to a statement released by the Vice Presidentโs media office, Shettima said Nigeriaโs diversity should be seen as a strength, not a weakness. He urged influential figures from the North to work together to preserve national cohesion and support the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
โThere is no better time for the leaders of the North to stand together and protect our unity. We must not allow mischief makers to divide us along ethnic or religious lines,โ Shettima said.
The Vice President stressed that political differences should never outweigh the shared goal of building a stable and inclusive nation. He noted that the Tinubu administration remains committed to ensuring equitable development across all regions through economic empowerment, education reform, and job creation.
Focus on Regional Development and National Stability
Shettima highlighted several federal initiatives targeted at improving security and infrastructure in northern Nigeria, including agricultural modernization and youth empowerment programs. He said such projects reflect the governmentโs dedication to addressing long-standing regional challenges while promoting self-reliance.
The Vice President also warned against individuals exploiting public grievances for selfish political purposes. โSome grievances are genuine, but many are driven by greed and misinformation. We must not give room to those who thrive on chaos,โ he stated.
In his response, ACF Chairman Alhaji Bashir Dalhatu commended the administration for its inclusive approach and pledged the forumโs continued partnership with the federal government. He also announced plans to mark the ACFโs 25th anniversary, which will include new initiatives to promote peace, education, and socio-economic development across the North.
The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their shared commitment to national unity and dialogue as key tools for sustaining peace in Nigeria.
