Nigerian singer Seyi Shay has addressed persistent questions about her relationship with the father of her daughter, clarifying why they are not married despite raising their child together with respect and understanding. The revelations came during a recent episode of the With Chude podcast, following her four-year break from the spotlight. 

She described her relationship with her baby’s father as “very special,” saying they are “great friends now” and “co-parent really well.” According to Seyi Shay, the reason they are not married is a “technical issue” — not a lack of love or mutual respect. 

The father is Nigerian, in the music industry on the corporate side, and currently based in the UK. They live apart but communicate and partner in caring for their child. Despite being in different locations, Seyi Shay maintains that their co-parenting arrangement works because of trust, calm decisions, and a shared goal of stability for their daughter. 

Reflections After Four Years Away

In the same interview, Seyi Shay talked about her decision to step back from the public eye for approximately four years. She said this period was an opportunity for deep introspection, spiritual growth, and shifting her perspective on life, including how she views relationships. She began this phase of reflection even before becoming a mother. 

She shared that the isolation gave her hindsight, insight, and foresight, tools she now uses to make intentional choices around her career and personal life. Her spirituality, she said, “transformed,” and her outlook toward men and relationships has evolved.
