REBUILDING VOCAL STRENGTH AFTER A LONG-TERM BREAK

If you have recently lost your vocal strength and you are keen on getting back to it, then these tips are for you:

  1. Rest. Stress can cause irrevocable damage to your vocal chords. Never underestimate the recuperative powers of rest.

  2. Start with light vocal exercises 20-30 minutes a day and also participate in exercises to maintain general body stamina and increase lung capacity.

  3. Get assessed by a doctor or a speech and language therapist. Make sure you have a good to go stamp from your health specialist especially if you stopped using your voice for health reasons.

  4. Avoid dangerous eating habits like smoking or drinking beer. Instead, drink herbal teas as they help clear the throat and respiratory tract.

  5. Avoid eating heavy food when you are about to sing. When you do that, it prevents free movement of the diaphragm.
