A non-governmental organization (NGO), in Kogi state has urged the  judicial panel to inquire into the activities of the administration of former governor of the state, Captain Idris Wada.

Capt. Wada (retd.) was unavoidably absent during the inauguration of his successor – Yahaya Bello in Lokoja, on Wednesday.

The former governor lost his re-election bid in the last governorship election in the state and is currently challenging the declaration of Mr. Bello, the substitute candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, as Kogi governor.

The Centre for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution, which made the call for a probe of the four year tenure of Mr. Wada, said the move was necessary to ascertain the level of foreign and local debts left behind by the immediate past Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, administration in the confluence state.

“The state has been characterized with uncompleted projects and inflated contracts, huge and fake wage bills and huge debts of imaginable proportion”, the Centre alleged in a statement issued in Lokoja on Thursday by its Executive Secretary, Idris Miliki-Abdul.

It said the panel of inquiry should also investigate the actual amounts paid to contractors on abandoned and ongoing projects initiated by the outgone Wada administration.

The group also hailed the declaration by Governor Bello during his inaugural speech, not to condone corruption and impunity during his tenure.

It, however, urged the new governor to publicly declare his assets, adding that the action would enhance people’s confidence and trust in the new administration.
