Comedienne Princess Fires Back at Critics After Court Frees Baba Ijesha

Comedienne Princess, known offstage as Damilola Adekoya, has sparked intense conversation online after posting a viral video reacting to the release of Nollywood actor Baba Ijesha from prison. The Nigeria Correctional Service confirmed that the actor completed his sentence and was released, setting off fresh waves of debate around the long-running case.

Princess, who was at the center of the original allegations, did not hold back in her Instagram live video. She told viewers that the public should stop assuming the actor’s freedom means he was cleared. According to her, he walked out of prison because he completed his jail term, not because a court set aside the judgment. She insisted that this distinction matters and warned people not to distort the facts.

The video, which spread quickly across social media, captured Princess speaking passionately about the need for continued vigilance. She addressed parents, schools, landlords and community members, saying that they should be aware of his history now that he is back in society. She mentioned several areas where he previously lived and urged residents to stay alert, especially around children and vulnerable people.

The comedian also stated that her foster daughter was not his only victim. She said other individuals had also reported troubling encounters with him and urged the public to avoid dismissing their experiences. Her message was focused on ensuring that those who may be at risk know what has happened and understand why she continues to speak out.

Princess also used the video to call out certain colleagues who have been celebrating Baba Ijesha’s release. She accused actor Yomi Fabiyi of clout chasing and misleading the public by framing the release as a victory. She questioned why some people were eager to distort the outcome of the case or portray her as overreacting. According to Princess, such reactions undermine survivors and make the environment unsafe for victims who speak up.

In addition to responding to critics, she renewed her call for the Lagos State Government to place Baba Ijesha’s name on a sex offenders register. She argued that this would help protect communities and allow residents, schools and guardians to make informed decisions. Princess insisted that completing a sentence does not erase a person’s record and that society benefits from transparency in cases involving minors.

This is not the first time Princess has spoken boldly about the matter. When Baba Ijesha was originally sentenced to 16 years in prison, she described it as a victory for survivors and emphasized the importance of accountability. Now, with his release, her tone is different. She appears more focused on public safety and community awareness rather than celebration or anger.

Her latest video has ignited discussions across social platforms, with many Nigerians supporting her call for a sex offenders register and stronger protective policies. Others argue about fairness, rights after serving a sentence and the long-term impact on communities. Regardless of public opinion, one thing is clear. Princess has no intention of stepping back from advocating for children and vulnerable people.
