Last Sunday, the 25th September 2016, was a memorable one for Sebeccly Cancer Care as they marked 10 years of impact to the cancer advocacy in Nigeria. The story of how Sebeccly was birthed from a painful experience and the journey so far was shared by the founder, Dr. (Mrs) Omolola Salako, and emphasis was laid on the importance of regular checkups and hence, early detection.
Over the years, Sebeccly has produced fifty survivors and this event was focused on celebrating them. Cancer patients were soon encouraged to keep fighting and never give up hope as survivors were brought forward and recognized. They were reminded that cancer is not a death sentence and Sebeccly is committed to ensuring that the cancer story of Nigerians changes positively.
Her Excellency, Mrs. Dolapo Osinbajo, ably represented by Mrs Foluke Mobreola, was the special guest of honour. Also, the commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), Hon. (Mrs) Lola Akande, who was present in person, encouraged patients to keep fighting, pledging WAPA’s allegiance to support the cancer cause.
Other dignitaries like Mr. Darkey Africa (Consulate General, South African Embassy) and guests from various organizations like (Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and Lakeshore Cancer Center (LCC) also graced the event.
Sebeccly, in partnership with the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, seized the opportunity to launch their Cancer Survivorship Centre (CSC). This center is set up to connect women on a daily basis on coping with breast and cervical cancer by providing resources which will aid treatment.
Guests were entertained with good music, great food and some laughter moments.
As a wrap to the event, donations were made and awards presented to various organizations to reward their continued support to Sebeccly over the years.
