The smartphone market is one of the most fluid in the world, with new players joining the market before you can blink. New manufacturers up the ante with specifications and sometimes attempt to win customers with budget phones.

Regardless, analytics company IDC has released data showing that Samsung remains the highest selling smartphone in the world outstripping rivals Apple by some measure.

Huawei comes in a close third and there’s about where all the predictability ends. Two Chinese companies are the newest entrants into the league of highest selling smartphones as they managed to displace Lenovo and Xiaomi.

Oppo and Vivo sold 18.5 and 14.3 million units respectively with their massive sales driven by offering decent specifications at barely half the price of the biggest names. It probably also hurt to have a market like China where striking the right balance for the budget buyers would probably ensure market success.
