The People’s Democratic Party in Ondo has suffered another setback as the highly anticipated November 26 gubernatorial election draws nearer.
Governor Olusegun Mimiko
As the current crisis rocking the PDP especially in Ondo State continues over its rightful governorship candidate, an aide of the state Governor, Mrs Oladun Aderonke Morolayo from Odigbo local government, has resigned her appointment as Special Assistant to the governor on political matters.
A resignation letter dated 2nd of November, 2016 was addressed to the governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko. Mrs. Morolayo in her letter criticized the selection of Eyitayo Jegede from the Central Senatorial District as the flagbearer of the party.
It is currently unclear whether Mrs. Morolayo plans to defect to any other political party in the state. There have been reports of PDP chieftains and local supporters heading out in droves to the All Progressives Congress as Rotimi Akeredolu, the party’s governorship candidate soars high in popularity.
It would be recalled that a former Deputy Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Sports, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, on Saturday dumped the Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State, attributing the decision to personal reasons.
The exodus may not be far from the power tussle of the substitition of the name of Eyitayo Jegede (Governor Olusegun Mimiko’s anointed candidate) with that of Jimoh Ibrahim from the controversial Ali Modu Sheriff camp.
