Oluremi Tinubu Calls on Nigerians to Embrace Clean Energy and Environmental Responsibility

Nigeriaโ€™s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on citizens across the country to take collective responsibility for protecting the environment, stressing that cleanliness and environmental preservation should be seen as a shared societal duty rather than the task of government alone.

She made this appeal in Abuja on Monday while delivering a message to mark the International Day of Clean Energy 2026, celebrated globally under the theme โ€œClean Energy for People and Planet.โ€ According to the First Lady, the occasion serves as an important reminder that the choices individuals and communities make today will shape the health and sustainability of the planet for future generations.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu emphasized that environmental protection goes beyond policy discussions and should be reflected in everyday actions. She noted that caring for the environment, through responsible waste management, cleanliness, and sustainable practices is essential for national well-being and long-term development.

Highlighting the role of clean energy in environmental preservation, the First Lady encouraged Nigerians to adopt renewable energy solutions and sustainable technologies. She described clean energy as a vital foundation for survival, healthy living, and responsible environmental stewardship.

According to her, transitioning to renewable energy sources is not only beneficial for the environment but also critical for improving quality of life and ensuring a safer future.

She urged individuals, communities, and institutions to work together in building a greener and healthier society. By embracing clean energy and sustainable practices, she said, Nigerians can contribute meaningfully to reducing environmental degradation and promoting a cleaner ecosystem.

The First Lady also used the occasion to extend goodwill to Nigerians, wishing them a meaningful International Day of Clean Energy and encouraging continued commitment to environmental responsibility.

The International Day of Clean Energy is observed annually on January 26 and was established by the United Nations General Assembly through resolution A/77/327. The day is dedicated to raising awareness and inspiring global action toward a fair and inclusive transition to clean energy systems.

The observance highlights the importance of clean energy in addressing climate change, protecting natural ecosystems, and supporting economic and social development. It also underscores the need for collaboration between governments, private sectors, and citizens to ensure that clean energy solutions benefit both people and the planet.

Senator Oluremi Tinubuโ€™s message reinforces the growing call for sustainable choices and shared responsibility. Her remarks serve as a reminder that protecting the environment begins with individual actions and collective commitment to a cleaner, healthier world.
