Nollywood Actress Halima Abubakar Begs For Help For Urgent Brain And Spleen Surgery

Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar has made a heartfelt public appeal for financial assistance, saying she urgently needs help to undergo surgery on her brain and spleen as her health condition becomes critical. The revelation comes in a video making the rounds online and has quickly sparked reactions across social media and entertainment circles.

In the emotional clip, the actress can be seen seated on the floor, visibly distressed as she talks about her struggles and her need for urgent medical support. โ€œIโ€™m tired of begging. Please I need money for my brain and spleen surgery,โ€ she said, addressing wellโ€‘meaning Nigerians and anyone who might be able to assist. Halima added, โ€œI am ashamed. If I am ashamed, Iโ€™ll die away one day you people will not know.โ€

Halima Abubakar’s emotional plea for support

This is not the first time Halima Abubakar has reached out to the public for support. In January, the actress revealed that she had been diagnosed with a brain tumour and needed around N25 million for surgery. At the time, she also said she was facing eviction from her home in Abuja as her resources ran out.

Earlier, she detailed how she had depleted her savings to cover her motherโ€™s hernia surgery in October 2025 โ€” a procedure that cost her N9 million โ€” leaving her with very little for her own treatment. She also said that funds contributed for her treatment were rejected by her landlady when she fell behind on rent.

The actress has shared that she relocated to Abuja to be close to the Turkish Hospital, where she intends to receive her treatment, but she is struggling to raise enough money to proceed. She also said that many attempts to reach out to wellโ€‘known Nigerians for help, including celebrities, have gone unanswered.

In her appeal, Halima called on public figures including Don Jazzy, Seyi Tinubu, and others, saying she had nobody else to turn to and urging them to respond to her calls for help.

Since her video circulated, fans and followers have reacted with a mix of sympathy and concern. Many expressed sadness over her health and financial struggle, while others noted that she has been vocal about her condition for years and that support has sometimes been slow to arrive.

Halima Abubakar, who has featured in more than 250 films and started her acting career in 2001, previously faced industry challenges, including a suspension by the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) in October 2024. That suspension was lifted recently, with the guild leadership saying it would be unjust to continue barring her from the profession when she needs work to support herself.

Despite her long career, she has told the public that she felt abandoned by many colleagues when she needed support most. Her renewed plea underscores the emotional and financial toll that medical crises can take on entertainers who lack strong safety nets.

Halimaโ€™s situation has also stirred wider discussions about access to quality healthcare in Nigeria, especially for individuals facing chronic illnesses or major medical emergencies. Many commentators on social media noted that the cost of surgery and care โ€” even when urgently needed โ€” can push people into severe hardship, especially when family and community support is limited.

In her video, Halima stressed that her appeal was serious and not an attempt to draw sympathy, saying that people who doubt her illness would understand only when faced with similar struggles. โ€œOnly a mad person would lie about being sick,โ€ she said, rejecting claims that her plea was exaggerated.
