Nigerians React as Doris Ogala Claims to Forgive Chris Okafor

A viral video from a Sunday church service has set Nigerian social media alight after prominent televangelist Pastor Chris Okafor publicly apologized to Nollywood actress Doris Ogala โ€” and Nigerians are deeply divided in their reactions.

In the now-trending clip, Pastor Chris Okafor, founder of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministries, is seen kneeling before his congregation as he addressed the ongoing public dispute between himself and Doris Ogala. He admitted โ€œmistakes have been made in the pastโ€ and tendered an apology not only to Ogala but โ€œto everyone I have offended.โ€ He also stated he was prepared to make restitution to anyone affected and asked for forgiveness, acknowledging that he is โ€œnot perfect.โ€

The apology came against a backdrop of intense controversy. Ogala had previously levelled serious allegations against the cleric, including claims of a broken promise to marry her and other personal grievances, which dominated social media and entertainment news for weeks.

Soon after the apology video circulated, Doris Ogala reposted the clip on her Instagram page and publicly stated that she forgave Pastor Chris Okafor. In her words, โ€œChris Okafor, please donโ€™t kneel. This was all I wanted. Apology accepted.โ€ But she clarified her forgiveness did not mean full agreement with everything he said.

Ogala took particular issue with the part of his apology in which he suggested that โ€œeverything that was said is not true.โ€ She wrote: โ€œChris Okafor, I forgive you, but thereโ€™s a problem where you said everything is a lie. I have a problem with that because I donโ€™t lie.โ€

As expected, Nigerians reacted strongly on platforms like X, Instagram, Facebook and entertainment forums:Some praised the apology and call for forgiveness, saying that reconciliation is better than endless conflict and that the public needed to see peace prevail.

Others argued the apology was merely damage control; a strategic move to protect reputation rather than a sincere admission of wrongdoing. Critics highlighted the part where Pastor Okafor insisted that parts of the allegations were untrue, calling the gesture โ€œperformativeโ€ and manipulative.

Several citizens said the issue is now beyond a personal matter between Okafor and Ogala. They tagged government institutions such as the Nigeria Police Force, the Lagos State Government, and even the Federal Government to investigate the original allegations and ensure accountability, arguing that forgiveness alone does not address unresolved legal questions.

As of now, Pastor Chris Okafor has not responded to Ogalaโ€™s specific objection about the claim that โ€œeverything said was not true,โ€ and both parties have not publicly confirmed further steps. Nigerian entertainment and news circles continue to monitor how this will unfold in the coming days.
