A Nigerian content creator known as Iyo has broken his silence following a disturbing encounter with police officers that has stirred nationwide outrage and renewed conversations around police brutality and extortion in Nigeria.
Just two days after he publicly narrated how he was allegedly harassed, beaten, and extorted by men identified as police officers, Iyo shared a follow-up statement a few hours ago explaining the emotional and psychological toll of the incident, as well as the developments that followed his viral post.
According to him, the initial post triggered massive public attention, with thousands of Nigerians reaching out, sharing messages of support, and demanding accountability. The attention also prompted direct intervention from senior police authorities.
Iyo confirmed that he has since spoken directly with the Commissioner of Police and has been invited to be actively involved in the ongoing investigation into the incident.
However, he admitted that the process has not been easy.

โIโm still processing how I feel about this,โ he wrote, noting that the thought of entering a police vehicle again has been particularly triggering given the trauma he endured. He described himself as anxious and deeply shaken, choosing to take the process โone step at a timeโ as he navigates the investigation.
In a surprising turn, Iyo revealed that his visit to the police headquarters challenged some of his long-held perceptions.
Contrary to his expectations, he described the officers he met as professional, attentive, and respectful, a reception he said genuinely surprised him. During the visit, he was informed that his case is not an isolated incident, with several similar complaints reportedly filed within the same month.
This revelation has further intensified public concern. Since his story went viral, many Nigerians have flooded his direct messages and comment sections, sharing eerily similar experiences of alleged harassment, extortion, and assault by police officers.
For many, Iyoโs courage in speaking out has opened a long-suppressed conversation about systemic abuse and the fear citizens face during routine encounters with law enforcement.
The growing number of shared testimonies has strengthened calls for transparency, accountability, and concrete reforms within the police force. Civil society advocates argue that while investigations are welcome, justice must be seen to be done to restore public trust.
Iyo ended his statement by expressing heartfelt gratitude to those who checked on him, prayed for him, and amplified his voice. He described the support as overwhelming and deeply meaningful, especially during a period marked by trauma and uncertainty.
Nigerians continue to watch closely and many hope this case will not end as another forgotten headline but will instead mark a turning point; one where victims are heard, perpetrators are held accountable, and meaningful change begins.
