Nicki Minaj Backs Trump on Christian Persecution in Nigeria

International superstar Nicki Minaj has publicly supported former President Donald Trump’s controversial claims that Christians in Nigeria are under threat, calling on global leaders to act. She used a high-profile platform at the United Nations to bring attention to “deadly violence” against Christians in parts of Nigeria.

Minaj thanked Trump directly for elevating the issue, saying his leadership helped spotlight what she described as “horrific attacks on Christian communities.”  At the UN panel co-hosted with the U.S. Ambassador Mike Waltz and other faith leaders she urged swift political action to defend religious freedom and stop the killings.

According to Minaj, Christians in Nigeria are being “targeted, driven from their homes and killed,” and entire communities live in fear because of how they pray.  She said the violence is not isolated  “this problem … demands urgent action,” she argued, adding that the crisis is spreading in other countries too.

Despite the gravity of her message, Minaj insisted she was not taking sides in Nigeria’s complex religious and security landscape. She framed her remarks as a humanitarian call, not a political maneuver: “Protecting Christians in Nigeria is not about taking sides or dividing people. It is about uniting humanity.”

Minaj also told her fans famously known as her “Barbz”  , that her decision to speak up on this issue comes from a place of conviction. She said: “This is about what I’ve always stood for … I will care if anyone, anywhere, is being persecuted for their beliefs.”

Her remarks drew international attention partly because of Trump’s controversial posture. Earlier, Trump had warned that the U.S. could take military action against terrorists in Nigeria if violence against Christians did not stop, calling the situation “an existential threat.”  Minaj expressed deep gratitude for living in a country where worship is free: “We live in a country where we can freely worship God … No group should ever be persecuted for practicing their religion.”

But not everyone welcomed her intervention. Some fans criticized her for aligning with Trump’s political agenda.  Meanwhile, Nigerian government officials have pushed back: Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar recently denied that Nigeria’s government is committing systemic religious persecution, arguing that the country’s constitution guarantees freedom of belief.
