Ned Nwoko, the Senator representing Delta North, has publicly denied circulating claims that he married actress Regina Daniels when she was 17 years old. In a post shared on social media, he described such claims as “entirely untrue and misleading.” 

In his recent post on Twitter, Nwoko clarified the timeline of their marriage and provided details of how he verified Regina’s age at the outset of their relationship. He claimed that during their first meeting, he asked her age and she responded that she was 21. He also said he asked for documentation to support this and that Regina presented her Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voter’s card showing a date of birth of October 10, 1998. He said he has retained that document since their first meeting. 

The Senator went on to explain that based on this information, and other verifiable records, their marriage took place six years ago. That timeline would indicate that Regina Daniels is currently 27 years old, according to his calculations — thereby refuting the 17-year-old narrative. 

Beyond the age question, Nwoko used the opportunity to challenge the public to treat Regina’s recent claims with caution, pointing to what he described as her “current mental condition” and the fact that she had allegedly begun but not completed a rehabilitation programme for illegal drug addiction. In his words, “The facts are verifiable and indisputable… I urge the public to approach all her claims with caution and discernment.” 

The controversy arises amid a broader marital crisis between Nwoko and Regina Daniels. Earlier reports highlighted a viral video showing the actress in tears, allegations of domestic violence, and claims of substance abuse. 

Some background: The question of Regina Daniels’ age at the time of her marriage to Nwoko has been a heated point of debate. On one side, critics claimed she was underage (17) at marriage, while others argued she was 19 or older. 

By presenting what he described as a voter ID document and citing a BBC interview given by Regina’s mother after their marriage, Nwoko is seeking to put to rest the claim of underage marriage. Whether the public will view this as definitive remains to be seen, but it is clear that he is attempting to shift the narrative in his favour.

As of now, Regina Daniels has not issued a direct public response to Nwoko’s detailed allegations about her age verification and the condition of their relationship. The dispute continues to capture wide attention across Nigerian media and social platforms.
