Nigerian rapper Zlatan Ibile has shared a deeply personal story about his early success, revealing how buying his first home came with unexpected challenges at home. After his breakthrough in 2019, the artist said he purchased a house in Lekki at age 25 but found himself torn between enjoying his success and supporting his family.
According to him, the decision wasn’t easy. While he considered moving in with friends and starting a new lifestyle, constant reports about his family’s struggles in their neighbourhood, including his brother getting into fights, pushed him to act differently. Instead of settling in alone, Zlatan chose to hand the house over to his parents first, prioritising their comfort and safety.
However, the gesture was initially met with doubt. His parents questioned how he could afford such a property so quickly through music and asked him to provide proof of his earnings. He revealed that he had to show bank statements reflecting over ₦10 million and that his parents even insisted on a seven-day prayer for confirmation before agreeing to move in.
Zlatan added that living with his parents from 2020 to 2023 came with strict conditions. He faced limitations on parties, visitors, and even personal choices like tattoos and piercings, all formalised in an agreement. Despite the restrictions, he accepted the terms to maintain peace and unity at home.
