Moussa highlighted a central challenge facing Africa today: the need for robust, scalable infrastructure to match the continent’s accelerating digital transformation. “We are at a pivotal moment in Africa’s digital journey,” he said, noting the unprecedented demand for connectivity across urban and rural communities. According to Moussa, MTN Nigeria is tackling this challenge by investing heavily in fibre optics, expanding 5G technology, and rolling out rural connectivity projects designed to bridge the digital divide.

He emphasized that infrastructure alone will not be enough. Strategic partnerships between governments, regulators, and private sector players are essential to creating an environment where innovation can thrive. “No single entity can achieve this alone,” Moussa stressed, pointing to the role of public-private partnerships in unlocking Africa’s digital potential.
Other panelists echoed these sentiments. Martin Kaufmann of Space42 underlined the importance of developing enterprise connectivity, while Eghosa Urhogide of Edo State ICTA stressed the need for regional collaboration. Oluwasayo Oshadami of Equinix West Africa added that data centers and cloud infrastructure are becoming critical to support Africa’s growing digital ecosystem. Together, their perspectives reinforced a common vision: building a connected Africa that is inclusive, innovative, and globally competitive.

The conversation at GITEX Africa Lagos Edition went beyond technology. It touched on how connectivity can drive economic growth, improve access to essential services, and foster opportunities for millions of Africans. By prioritizing investment in digital infrastructure and strengthening collaboration, Africa has the chance to not only catch up with global digital advancements but also lead with homegrown solutions tailored to its unique context.
The event ended with a strong call to action: stakeholders must continue investing, collaborating, and shaping forward-thinking policies that position Africa as a hub for digital innovation. For MTN Nigeria, this means staying committed to building the “digital highways” that will power economic growth, bridge the digital divide, and accelerate the continent’s digital future.
With the momentum from GITEX Africa Lagos Edition, Africa’s digital transformation journey is gathering speed. The message from Ayham Moussa and other leaders is clear: strategic partnerships and bold investments are no longer optional; they are the foundation of Africa’s digital future.
