Mexican authorities have begun the official process to extradite drug Lord, El Chapo to the United States.
Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman was captured last week six months after one of the most daring jail breaks ever. El Chapo is the head of the Sinaloa Cartel, the biggest drug ring in the world.
El Chapo is being held at the Altiplano maximum security prison, the same facility he broke out from in July.
El Chapo will face drug trafficking charges in the United States and his extradition is likely to be a lenghty process which might take up to one year.
Mexico had been firmly opposed to El Chapo’s extradition until his escape in July which embarrassed the Mexican Government.
