The residents of Magodo Estate Phase 2 staged a protest after armed men invaded the estate with bulldozers to begin the demolition of houses fully built in the estate.
Residents trooped out of their houses to stand guard at the entrance of the estate to prevent entrance and demolition.
According to the residents, some men of the Nigerian Police earlier visited the estate with a group of “hoodlums” and they “marked virtually all the houses in the fully-built Estate for demolition”.
The mobile police reportedly arrived again on 21st December and a bulldozer was also brought to begin demolition.
The armed mobile police officers were reportedly there to provide security so that the demolition can take place without the homeowners fighting back.
However, residents trooped out to “form a human shield at the entrance of the gate” so that the bulldozer will not be driven in.
The protest continued into the early hours of 22nd December 2021.
