Strong Nigerian Presence at AMAA
Directed by Niyi Akinmolayan, Lisabi: The Uprising tells the story of the legendary Egba farmer who rises up against oppression from the Oyo Empire. Its nomination haul places it among the most celebrated Nigerian films this year. In the Best Actor category, Lateef Adedimejiโs portrayal of Lisabi is up for consideration against other leading performances from across Africa. The filmโs technical achievements are also recognised, particularly in cinematography and visual effects.
Other films with significant nominations include Katanga: Dance of the Scorpions from Burkina Faso which leads the board with ten nods. Nigeriaโs 3 Cold Dishes is another notable nominee. The AMAA 21st edition will take place on November 9, 2025, at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Ikeja GRA, Lagos.
For Lisabi: The Uprising, the nomination count adds fuel to the hope that the film will convert some of these nods into wins, especially in performance and technical categories. Its mix of cultural depth, visual spectacle, and strong performances has clearly resonated with AMAAโs selection panel and audiences alike.
