A patient receiving treatment for Lassa fever has escaped from the hospital in Ebonyi state today.

Nigeria’s minister of health, Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole confirmed the development today.

Nigeria is battling a fresh outbreak of the deadly Lassa fever, with reported cases in 17 of 36 states and seven reported deaths as a direct result.

The identity of the escaped patient has not been revealed.
