Lagos State Doctors, under the umbrella of the Medical Guild, are about to embark on a three-day warning strike from Monday, 13th July, 2020 amidst Coronavirus pandemic. According to the Chairman of the Medical Guild, Dr. Oluwajimi Sodipo, said that the purpose of the strike is to ensure that the welfare and safety of health workers in Lagos State is well-attended to.
He said, “The issue of COVID-19 hazard allowances and inducement allowances Memorandum of Understanding approved by the Federal Government to the doctors has not been approved by Lagos Government to her doctors.
โDoctors working in COVID-19 isolation centres are still being owed two months salaries which has remained unpaid at the moment. They are also being unceremoniously disengaged without recourse to their welfares.”
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the Chairman of the Guild has however exempted the doctors working in the Coronavirus isolation centres for the safety of the public. This is very thoughtful on the part of the Chairman of the Medical Guild, as Lagos remains the state with the highest number of Coronavirus cases.
