The Lagos State Government has announced that the Marine Bridge in Ijora, Apapa Local Government Area will be closed for 15 days to allow for essential maintenance work. The closure is part of efforts by the Federal Ministry of Works, in cooperation with the State, to repair worn components of the bridge and improve safety.

Transport Commissioner Oluwaseun Osiyemi said the maintenance will happen in two phases. The first phase starts Saturday, October 11, 2025 through Saturday, October 18, focusing on the area from the foot of Marine Bridge along Lawani Oguntayo Road by UBA, inbound toward Apapa/Costain.
The second phase begins Sunday, October 19, 2025, through Saturday, October 25, covering the stretch between Ijora Badia and Lilypond Access Ramp (inbound Apapa). During this time motorists from Ijora Olopa heading toward Apapa and Costain will be diverted about 50 metres before the work zone into a contraflow lane, rejoining after about 500 metres.
Motorists travelling from Apapa toward Costain, Lagos Island, or Ijora Olopa will retain through traffic. However, approaching the work zones on Marine Bridge, these drivers will also be diverted to form a contraflow with Costain-bound traffic for approximately 500 metres before rejoining the main carriageway.
Osiyemi asked for public patience as the maintenance works, which include repairing the underlying bearings of some sections of Marine Bridge, are carried out. Officials say the traffic management plan is designed to reduce disruption and that clear diversion signage will be provided.
Drivers using the Ijora-Apapa corridor are advised to plan their routes ahead. Choosing alternate roads, travelling outside peak hours, or allowing extra time for journeys can help avoid being stuck in traffic during this closure.
