Nollywood has never looked more dynamic, and one of its most respected stars, Ini Edo, took a moment to celebrate the extraordinary achievements of two of the industryโs most influential women: Funke Akindele (Behind The Scenes) and Toyin Abraham (Oversabi Aunty) after both actresses broke major box office records with their recent films.
In a heartfelt message shared on her Instagram page, Ini expressed admiration for the groundbreaking work accomplished by Akindele and Abraham. โI want to congratulate these industry titans @Funke Akindele and @Toyin Abraham for literally breaking all records and pushing beyond every envelope to record these ground breaking successes for Nollywoodโฆbrah, my respect for these two has taken a hike,โ she wrote, setting the tone for a post that was equal parts celebration and inspiration.

For Funke Akindele, this season has been historic. Her movie Behind The Scenes has officially become one of the highest-grossing Nollywood films of all time, crossing the โฆ2 billion mark at the box office, a first in the Nigerian film industry. Not only did it achieve unprecedented revenue, but it also set a new benchmark for commercial success, drawing audiences both at home and in international markets and earning accolades as one of Nigeriaโs most impactful cinematic releases to date.
Toyin Abrahamโs Oversabi Aunty also carved its own legacy by crossing the โฆ1 billion milestone, making it one of the few Nigerian films to reach that level and becoming the highest-grossing directorial debut in Nollywood history. Her performance at the box office demonstrated the growing influence and commercial viability of women storytellers in a traditionally male-dominated space.
Ini didnโt stop at congratulating them; she also celebrated her own team and cast members who supported her December release, A Very Dirty Christmas, which is currently still screening in cinemas. She gave special thanks to Euchariah Obi, Ike Ogbonna, Phyna, and Dr. Femi Osunkoyaa for their commitment, encouragement, and belief in the project.

What stood out in her message was the raw honesty about her journey how she โknew it was kinda over-ambitiousโ to take on such a project during the competitive December rush, yet chose to trust her instincts. She admitted to sacrificing her holiday in pursuit of her goals, showcasing the kind of tenacity that drives creative risk-takers.
In a playful yet reflective ending, Ini teased her resilience with a touch of humour: โI fit try am again 2026.โIni Edo also encouraged her fans not to be afraid to make big moves as the worst that can happen is either failure or success.
Her message was more than congratulations it was a lesson in ambition, grit, strategy, and self-belief.
Nollywoodโs landscape is clearly evolving, and with talents like Ini Edo, Funke Akindele, and Toyin Abraham leading the charge, the future of Nigerian cinema looks bigger and brighter than ever.
