WHO Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus informed pressman during a news conference that hydroxychloroquine trials have been temporarily suspended due to certain precautionary and safety measures the Organization would like to take. The Director-General has also pointed out that those who take the hydroxychloroquine drugs are at a higher risk of suffering from heart problems and death.
The World Health Organization’s Director-General said “The executive group has implemented a temporary pause of the hydroxychloroquine arm within the solidarity trial while the safety data is reviewed by the data safety monitoring board”. Even though the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, has been promoting the use of hydroxychloroquine, the World Health Organization has warned against self-medication, especially with drugs that have not gone through clinical trials like hydroxychloroquine.
