Global hospitality company Hilton has announced the debut of its lifestyle brand, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, in Sub-Saharan Africa. The move comes as part of Hiltonโs aggressive growth strategy across Africa, and follows the signing of three major property agreements in Kenya, Rwanda and South Africa.

The first property in Kenya will be the Ava Hotel Nairobi, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, located in the leafy Lavington suburb. The hotel will feature 91 guest rooms, a rooftop bar, restaurant, outdoor pool and fitness centre.ย In Rwanda, the Zaria Court Kigali, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, which will be Hiltonโs first property in the country, has been signed and is set to open later this year. This hotel will feature 80 rooms, a rooftop lounge, sports bar, and co-working space.ย Meanwhile, in South Africa, the Sterling Hotel, Tapestry Collection by Hilton in Sibaya, KwaZulu-Natal, is scheduled for opening in 2027 with 111 rooms and upscale amenities in a coastal setting.ย
What the Debut Means for Hilton and the Region

Industry experts say this launch underscores two key trends: travellersโ growing demand for lifestyle- and design-driven hotel experiences, and the increasing importance of Africaโs hospitality market. As Carlos Khneisser, Hiltonโs Chief Development Officer for Middle East & Africa, explained, the timing is right because โAfricaโs travel and tourism industry is experiencing significant momentum.โ
For Hilton, the brand already operates 64 hotels in Africa, with more than 100 properties in the development pipeline. By introducing the Tapestry Collection brand on the continent, Hilton is aiming to capture demand in upscale yet authentic travel segments, where guests seek local character backed by global brand standards.
From a regional perspective, the three properties span business and leisure destinations: Nairobi connects with Kenyaโs growth and tourism, Kigali is emerging as a sports- and events-driven city, and Sibaya offers a coastal resort environment in South Africa. Each hotel is designed to reflect the local culture while delivering a consistent guest experience under Hiltonโs network.
For travel bloggers, hotel industry watchers and investment readers, this story carries multiple angles: the expansion of global hotel brands in Africa, the shift to lifestyle and design-oriented lodging, and strategic positioning in Sub-Saharan hospitality markets.
