Nigerian celebrity chef Hilda Baci is preparing for another headline-making feat. On September 12, 2025, she will attempt to cook the world’s largest pot of jollof rice at Muri Okunola Park in Lagos. The custom-built pot stands 6 metres tall and 6 metres wide, with a jaw-dropping capacity of 22,619 litres.

She said some inspiring words on her page about this dream finally coming to life:
“Almost two years ago I had the dream to cook the largest pot of Jollof Rice ever made. And now, with ginonaija and YOU, that dream is coming alive. Six meters wide. Six meters tall. September 12, we make history together. Because what is Jollof without you to share it with?”
To pull this off, Hilda will use around 250 bags of rice, which is over 5,000 kilograms along with 1,583 kilograms of Gino tomato pastes. According to her, the goal is simple: “This is more than a record. It is a celebration of Nigerian food and the power of community.”
Sponsors Backing Hilda’s Dream
This massive effort is backed by a strong lineup of sponsors. GB Foods (makers of Gino, Bama, Jumbo tomato paste, and seasoning cubes) serves as headline sponsor.
Other brands lending support include Arla Foods, Uber, Filmhouse, BaigeWallet, Gino Max Cubes, GB Foods’ Gino Max and Jumbo lines, plus the Culinary Arts Practitioners Association of Nigeria. Together, they are providing ingredients, logistics, utensils, and more to ensure the event runs smoothly.

Hilda first rose to global fame in 2023 when she cooked for over 93 hours, earning a Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon. That event turned her into a symbol of resilience and passion. With this new challenge, she is aiming higher. “Jollof rice is part of who we are. I want the world to experience it on a scale they have never seen before,” she explained during a recent interview.
The Lagos event will not be just about food. Organizers promise music, entertainment, and plenty of tasting. Thousands are expected to attend, turning the record attempt into a festival of culture.
By cooking the largest pot of jollof rice, Hilda hopes to remind the world that Nigerian cuisine deserves its place on the global stage. Beyond numbers and records, her effort shows how food can bring people together and inspire pride in tradition.
