Music icon Innocent Idibia, also known by his stage name 2Baba, has been named Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue’s technical adviser on entertainment and community development.
When the music legend paid him a condolence visit on Wednesday, Alia made the announcement at Government House in Makurdi.
The governor acknowledged 2Baba’s achievements in the international music industry and called him a deserving state ambassador.
Alia also valued 2Baba’s humanitarian efforts and the help he provided to the people in need.
He was hopeful that 2Baba’s extensive background and global connections would benefit his new role.
โThank you for following up on the protocol. In our camps we have the support of the international community, and there is an international standard. People abuse everything nowadays, and people politicise everything, including insecurity for some reason.
โSo when you want to come and visit the IDPs, it is a very welcome idea, but we need to know who goes in and out of the camps.
โThey have been traumatised enough, so we need to protect them. Some members in the open space out there do not understand this. They feel it is an open house you just walk in and out, โ Alia said.
The governor urged the federal government and good-hearted citizens to work with the state to confront the insecurity, lamenting the wave of murders in the state brought on by the resurgence of gunman assaults.
โWhat pains most is that these are unprovoked attacks and the aim of the killers, the bandits, terrorists, murderers, is very simple: come kill, conquer and occupy.
โThat is extremely unacceptable by any standard. We are farmers and the best at what we do. If you remove farming from us, you have already rendered us helpless,โ he said.
2Baba had earlier stated that the purpose of the visit was to express condolences to the state government for the state’s murders.
He encouraged well-meaning Nigerians to work with the governor to resolve the issue and stated that he was willing to assist where needed.
Speaking as well, Enoch Ocheni, Head of Communications for the 2Baba Foundation, stated that 2Baba would keep fighting for the rights of the displaced through his foundation in his capacity as a Goodwill Ambassador to the UN High Commissioner on Refugees.
According to Ocheni, the charity will also aid refugees and supply water and sanitation, medical treatment for orphans, and relief supplies.
