Globacom reaffirms its long‐standing support by sponsoring the 2025 Ofala Festival, marking the 15th consecutive year of partnership with the Onitsha royal institution. The announcement came at a press event hosted at Ime Obi, the royal palace of His Majesty Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha.

At the press conference, Globacom emphasized its deep belief in Nigeria’s cultural heritage and its economic potential. Since 2011, the telecom company has sustained its backing of the annual Ofala Festival, aiming to elevate its status on the global cultural calendar. The 2025 edition will feature two key ritual days: Iru Ofala on October 17 and Azu Ofala on October 18.

Globacom’s vision for culture and growth

To improve the festival experience for its own customers, Globacom will roll out a special package for subscribers during the event. It is also accelerating the upgrade of network infrastructure nationwide, especially 4G-LTE expansion in the South East, to ensure customers enjoy enhanced voice and data service over the festival period. In addition, the firm recently introduced Talkmasta, which offers extra talk time and data at no extra cost, and Welcome Bonus, giving new subscribers a suite of entry-level perks.

Event schedule and security

The 2025 Ofala Festival program begins with a public lecture on October 7, followed by the Oreze Art Exhibition showcasing Nigerian and African paintings, sculptures, and ceramics. The Ofala Youth Carnival is set for October 15, and a Medical, Health and Wellbeing Community Outreach will precede the royal rituals. After Iru Ofala and Azu Ofala, a Royal Banquet will honour Igwe Achebe on October 22.

Mr Nnaemeka Maduegbuna, Chairman of the Strategic Marketing and Communications Committee, assured attendees that robust security and comfort measures are being put in place to ensure a safe and enjoyable festival.

Senior palace chiefs, members of the organizing committee, and the media were in attendance at the palace press conference. The renewed sponsorship by Globacom is expected to deepen the visibility and reach of Ofala, helping it to grow in status both within Nigeria and internationally.
