Preparatory activities kick off on Thursday, September 25, with a world press conference.  Friday, September 26 is reserved for a Jumu’at service and special programs for women.  On Saturday, September 27, youth-focused initiatives and a historical arts exhibition will be held.

On Sunday, September 28, an interfaith church service will take place at the National Christian Centre, beginning at 10:00 a.m.  Then on Monday, September 29, a public lecture is scheduled.  The week culminates on Wednesday, October 1, with the Presidential Broadcast and the Independence Day Parade.

The government has also announced the official theme: “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands On Deck”, calling on citizens to contribute to national development as the country marks this milestone.

In addition to the core events, the Nigeria @65 Compendium Project Workstation will be unveiled. This media hub is intended to host interview series and archival content that highlights Nigeria’s developmental journey across sectors.

The inter-ministerial committee overseeing the celebration was inaugurated earlier in September, with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, emphasizing unity, patriotism, and citizen engagement in the build-up to the anniversary.

As the nation prepares, states and local governments are expected to organize parallel events around the theme, aligning with the national schedule. Coverage of each program will be broadcast across major media outlets, allowing Nigerians at home and abroad to take part virtually.
