The Federal Government has reinforced its commitment to improving education in Nigeria with a major reward scheme for teachers and the launch of a new digital learning platform designed to strengthen professional development nationwide.
At the 2026 Nigeria Teachers’ Summit held in Abuja, the Federal Government awarded ₦50 million to the overall Best Teacher of the Year, while other outstanding teachers received ₦25 million each in recognition of excellence, dedication, and impact in the classroom. The event also featured the official unveiling of the EduRevamp online portal, a national platform aimed at continuous teacher training and skill development.

Taiwo Solanke emerged as the overall Best Teacher of the Year, earning the highest cash prize of ₦50 million. In addition to the top award, twelve other teachers selected from across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones were honored with ₦25 million each. The recipients were chosen based on teaching innovation, student impact, leadership, and commitment to educational advancement.
Speaking at the summit, government representatives emphasized that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to reposition teaching as a respected and rewarding profession in Nigeria. Officials noted that investing directly in teachers remains one of the most effective ways to improve learning outcomes and rebuild confidence in the public education system.

The ceremony drew educators, policymakers, and stakeholders from across the country, marking one of the largest teacher-focused recognition events in recent years. Many attendees described the awards as a morale booster for educators who have continued to work under challenging conditions.
EduRevamp Portal Targets Teacher Development
Alongside the cash awards, the Federal Government unveiled the EduRevamp portal, a digital platform designed to support teachers with structured professional development resources. The portal provides access to training modules, updated teaching methods, digital literacy courses, and subject specific learning materials aligned with national education standards.

According to officials, EduRevamp is expected to bridge gaps in teacher training, especially for educators in rural and underserved communities. The platform allows teachers to upgrade their skills remotely, track professional growth, and stay current with evolving educational practices.
Education authorities explained that the portal will also support curriculum delivery reforms and encourage lifelong learning among teachers. By digitizing training opportunities, the government aims to reduce disparities in access to quality professional development across states.
The launch of EduRevamp forms part of ongoing education reforms focused on improving classroom instruction, student performance, and teacher welfare. Officials confirmed that participation in the portal will be expanded gradually, with plans to integrate it into teacher evaluation and promotion frameworks in the future.
Education advocates have welcomed the dual approach of rewarding excellence while investing in long-term professional development. Many believe the initiative could help restore pride in the teaching profession and attract more qualified individuals into education.
As Nigeria continues to face challenges in learning outcomes and workforce readiness, the combination of financial recognition and structured capacity building signals a renewed focus on teachers as the foundation of national development.
