Three years after the shocking car accident that claimed the life of Big Brother Naija alumnus Patrick “Rico Swavey” Fakoya, his friends, management, and fans once again paid tribute to his memory on October 13, 2025. The occasion marks the third anniversary of his tragic death along the Lekki-Ajah Expressway in Lagos.

In messages shared across social media platforms, Rico’s management described him as a beacon of love and creativity whose memory “blooms like a garden of everlasting flowers.” The post read: “On this 3rd anniversary, we remember not just your departure, but the life you lived and the love you gave. Keep resting, Rico.”
Fans joined the remembrance by posting photos, video clips, and lyrics that reminded them of Rico’s calm presence, his artistic talents, and the kindness many said defined him. Many recalled highlights from his time on BBNaija’s Double Wahala edition in 2018, where he won the affection of viewers with his creativity and easygoing personality.
The circumstances of his death remain part of public memory. Rico died from injuries sustained in a vehicle crash on that expressway. His mother, in interviews, has spoken of the heartbreak of his final moments while receiving care in hospital. Eyewitness accounts noted poor lighting and road conditions as factors, while investigations into hospital conduct at the time also drew public attention.
Earlier this year, Big Brother Naija Season 10 also included Rico in a special tribute, joining fellow late former housemates Francisca Owumi and Joseph “Joe” Ada in being remembered with a minute of silence and reflective segments during the show. That gesture was embraced by viewers and celebrities who chimed in to celebrate Rico’s life again.
While three years have passed, many fans commented that Rico’s legacy continues to inspire through his music, his compassion, and the meaningful moments he shared with others. Though he is gone, his impact still resonates in the hearts of those who admired him.
