TechHer is a community hinged on support, collaboration and learning for women working in /around technology. TechHer will debut at Social Media Week Lagos on the 26th of February with two events.
The first, holding at the Hangout Suite of Landmark Centre from 12.30pm, discusses the challenges, experiences, and retention of women in technology. Chioma Agwuegbo, Founder of TechHer, says of the event, “beyond moaning about how there are few/no women rising to the top of the technology ladder, perhaps we should explore how many women stay rooted in their jobs, and how job policies create a level-playing field (or not) for them.”
The panel is drawn from techpreneurs, human resource personnel, and women working within technology, including Betty Enyonam Kumahor, Founder of Cobalt Partners, Niyi Abiri, Co-creator at cMapIT, Nkoyo Efretei, HR Manager, and Iyinoluwa Aboyeji, co-founder of Andela. The Vice-President of Talentbase, Chika Uwazie, will moderate the conversation. Participants can registerย HERE
The second event, Lagos’ first Social Media Surgery is held in conjunction with Andela at their Amity Address: 2/4 Funsho Street, off Alara. Sabo, Yaba, Lagos. The practical learning session which starts by 4pm will impart attendees with Digital Marketing and Enterprise Development skills led by industry experts Tobi Ayeni (Miss Techy Blog) and Joy Ihotu Amuta (Scratchboard).
The climax of the evening event will be free web design, development, and management services provided by volunteers drawn from Andela and TechHer. โWeโre excited to empower women to be in charge of their business structures, and be able to either promote their businesses themselves, or make decisions from a place of knowledgeโ, says Miss Agwuegbo. Both events are free to attend (registration is required), and also feature a raffle draw, TechHer goody bags, and opportunities for networking.
