Lagos Govt Demolishes Ola of Lagos’ Car Showroom Over Safety Concerns

The Lagos State Government has pulled down the luxury car showroom of auto dealer and influencer Waris Olayinka Akinwande, better known as Ola of Lagos, as part of a renewed enforcement campaign on unsafe and illegal structures. The building, identified as OOL Autos, was demolished on Saturday, October 11, 2025, amid reports that it violated safety regulations.

Videos circulating on social media show heavy machinery flattening portions of the showroom. Some reports suggest the facility was constructed under a high-tension electrical line, a violation that would prompt such action under urban planning laws.

After the demolition, Ola of Lagos took to Instagram to reassure his followers and clients that the setback will not halt his operations. He confirmed that his car business remains active despite the loss of the showroom. He also shared plans for a new facility, stating that the new OOL Autos showroom would be “bigger and better, insha Allah.”

Though state officials have not publicly confirmed all the details leading to the demolition, safety concerns are widely cited. Some social media users and news reports pointed out that building under power lines poses real dangers. Others questioned whether Ola was given prior notice or an opportunity to resolve the issue before the demolition.

Meanwhile, the Lekki Automobile Dealers Union has voiced support for the government’s action, describing it as lawful and an important part of environmental safety and proper infrastructure management. They acknowledged that while service delivery will be disrupted temporarily, restoring operations and trust remains a priority.

The property was clarified by Skyewise Group to belong to them, with Ola of Lagos leasing a portion for car display and content creation. Skyewise says they obtained all the required permits and approvals. They also confirmed plans to rebuild and move ahead following the demolition.

Ola acknowledged the financial loss, noting that the cost could have bought a luxury bedroom apartment in Ikoyi, yet expressed gratitude for the support he has received. He remains optimistic about returning stronger.
